Dr. Mahesh Kumar Maskey is the Chairman of Nepal health Research Council (NHRC). The Council has been involved in promoting, coordinating and allowing health research in Nepal. It has also started conducting health research of its own for the last three years. As an autonomous institution the Council was established to assist the government in making appropriate health policies and programmes. At this backdrop, Nandalal Sharma, Executive Editor of the Health Times, talked with Dr. Maskey about the condition of health research in the country and other issues. Excerpts:

Dr. Kashi Kanta Jha is the director of SAARC Tuberculosis and HIV/AIDS Centre (STAC). He has been overseeing policies and programmes aimed at fighting against the two deadly and to a great degree interrelated diseases in the eight South Asian countries for the last five years. STAC coordinates the efforts of TB and HIV/AIDS control program of the member states. Although figures presented by STAC show that the countries have made tremendous achievement in prevention and control of the diseases, their widespread and challenging prevalence require that a lot has yet to be done to curb them. Given this background, Nandalal Sharma, executive editor of the Health Times, talked with Dr. Jha about achievement and future strategy of the STAC for controlling the fatal infections. |

Dr. Tara Man Amatya, a chest specialist and physiologist with DTCD and MD degrees, is the founder president of Hardic Lifestyle Clinic. He is the first person to do post graduate in high altitude sickness, and currently associated with TU institute of medicine. As a high altitude sickness specialist, Dr. Amatya had chances to visit various countries like Japan, Canada and Switzerland for research which made him conclude that more people suffer from non-communicable diseases than the infectious ones. This ultimately led him to set up a health club help people prevent suffering from non-infectious sickness. |
